American hosts

Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, dates back to the 19th century. Chalmers is one of Europe’s leading universities. It is known, both locally and globally, for cutting edge research and excellent educational standards. These high standards, combined with the international atmosphere, may be why our exchange students rank the experience and education as best in Europe, and fifth best in the world.

The students at Chalmers are passionate about their studies and eager to learn. In addition, they are often involved in start-ups and small companies during their time at Chalmers. This gives them invaluable hands-on experience and a unique skill set.

CETAC is a student organization at Chalmers University of Technology. We were founded in 1966 with the mission to bring highly educated students and high-tech American companies together. Over the years our trainee program has made it possible for over 1000 students to gain experience at companies such as Apple, Microsoft, NASA, SUN Microsystems, etc.

Only highly motivated and technically skilled students apply to the participating companies. With fresh ideas, a different perspective and a burning interest our members will make solid and unique contributions.
This cultural exchange is also a great benefit to both the student as well as the host firm.

All members of CETAC are students at Chalmers, speak English fluently, and have completed at least three years of coursework towards an M.Sc. in one of the following fields:

  • Engineering Physics
  • Engineering Mathematics
  • Software Engineering
  • Computer Science & Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering

Our members have extraordinary skills in a wide range of areas, including but not limited to UI/UX, backend, web development, data analysis/optimization, app development, network security, big data, machine learning, experimental physics, microelectronics, electric circuit design, signal processing and control systems engineering.

Our trainee programme has seen great success throughout the years. We have worked with the majority of our host firms on a recurring basis. The length of internships varies from 10 weeks to 12 months. Most students begin with a 6 month internship with the possibility of an extension. Our internships are scheduled to commence in the middle of June 2018.

CETAC handles the VISA process in cooperation with ASF, the American Scandinavian Foundation.
